What we handle, line by line

Alpha Terra develops and trades five resource lines, and runs the engineering and procurement work that sits around them. Each line below states what we source, how it is graded and what a buyer receives.

Resource lines

Five lines, one process

Sourcing, assay, documentation and export are handled by the same team on every line. What changes is the specification.

HC

Petroleum

Graded by °API

We place crude and refined derivatives on term and spot structures, priced off the published benchmark that fits the grade. Quality is fixed by density and sulphur before a cargo is nominated, and every parcel moves with an independent inspector's report. Movement is arranged from the loading terminal to the discharge port named in the contract.

Deliverables
  • Crude oil, by °API grade
  • Refined derivatives
  • Independent quantity and quality survey
  • Term or spot structures
  • FOB / CIF terms

Fe

Iron ore

Fe content, %

We source direct-shipping ore and concentrate from the Bolívar iron belt and prepare it to a stated Fe content, with silica, alumina and phosphorus declared. Each lot is sampled and assayed before loading, and the certificate travels with the cargo. Sizing and moisture are agreed in the contract rather than left to the mine's own description.

Deliverables
  • Direct-shipping ore
  • Concentrate
  • Assay per lot
  • Sizing and moisture specification
  • FOB / CIF terms

Al

Aluminium

Al2O3, %

We supply bauxite and alumina against an Al2O3 specification, with reactive silica and moisture reported per shipment. Bolívar holds bauxite reserves and alumina capacity in the same river and port corridor, so material moves without a long inland leg. Lots are assayed at load port and re-checked on discharge when the buyer asks for it.

Deliverables
  • Bauxite
  • Metallurgical-grade alumina
  • Al2O3 and reactive silica assay
  • Load-port and discharge sampling
  • FOB / CIF terms

Au

Gold

Fineness, ‰

We handle doré and gold-bearing concentrates from permitted producers, with fineness established by fire assay before any transfer. Chain of custody, origin documentation and the receiving refinery are settled before material leaves the country. We do not move material that cannot be traced back to its source.

Deliverables
  • Doré bars
  • Gold concentrates
  • Fire assay and fineness certificate
  • Chain-of-custody file
  • Refinery nomination

Critical minerals

Assay per lot

Rare earths and battery metals are handled lot by lot, because no single benchmark fits them. We set the payable elements, the deleterious limits and the assay method with the buyer first, then source against that specification. Volumes start small and scale once there is an assay history to point at.

Deliverables
  • Rare earth concentrates
  • Battery metal feedstock
  • Full elemental assay per lot
  • Payables and penalties agreed in advance

Specification, sourcing and inspection

Resource work needs equipment, spares and consumables that meet a written specification and arrive with the right paperwork. We run that side as a service: we turn a requirement into a technical specification, find vendors who can meet it, inspect what they build and prepare the export file that gets it across a border.

Technical specification

We turn an operational requirement into a written spec: standards, materials, tolerances, test regime and the documentation the vendor has to return with the goods.

Vendor sourcing

We identify and qualify manufacturers against that spec, then compare them on landed cost and lead time rather than list price, and hold the commercial terms.

Inspection and expediting

Works inspection at agreed hold points, witnessed testing where the spec calls for it, and progress reporting so a slipping date is known early instead of at the port.

Export documentation

Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, HS classification and whatever certificates the destination requires, prepared before shipment.

Trading terms

How business is done

Nothing unusual — the standard instruments of physical trade, stated up front so there is nothing to discover later.

Pricing benchmark

Priced against the published benchmark for the line, with the premium or discount for grade written into the contract.

Incoterms

FOB or CIF under Incoterms 2020. The named port, the transfer of risk and who pays for what are set out in the contract.

Inspection

An independent surveyor at load, and at discharge where the buyer wants one. Quantity and quality are the surveyor's figures, not ours.

Documentation

Certificate of origin, assay certificate, bill of lading and the destination's import file, issued per lot.

Payment

Letter of credit or documentary collection through a correspondent bank. Terms are agreed before a cargo is nominated.

First shipment

With a new counterparty we usually start on a trial lot. It proves the assay, the paperwork and the route before either side commits to a term contract.
